Omni Triple Triad (OTT)
Omni Triple Triad is the larger-format version of Triple Triad, played on a 5x5 board with 15-card hands and a discard mechanic.
How to Play
Objective
Capture more cards than your opponent on a 25-cell board.
Game Setup
- Each player receives 15 cards from their deck
- Only 2 cards are visible in your hand at a time (a sliding window)
- A 5x5 board is displayed, which may include block positions (unplayable cells)
- Players take turns placing one card at a time
The Sliding Window
Unlike TTE where you see all 5 cards at once, OTT shows you 2 cards at a time from your hand of 15. You play one of the two visible cards each turn, and the window slides to reveal the next card.
Card Capture
Capture rules work the same as TTE:
- Each card has 4 directional values (Top, Right, Bottom, Left)
- When placed adjacent to an enemy card, compare touching values
- Higher value captures the enemy card
- All optional rules (Same, Plus, Combo, etc.) work the same way
The Discard Mechanic
Once per game, you can discard one of your two visible cards instead of playing it:
- Click the Discard button to remove a card from your hand
- A new card slides into view
- Use this strategically to skip a weak card
When to discard:
- When both visible cards are weak for the current board state
- When you need a better card for a specific position
- Early in the game when there are more options ahead
Block Positions
Some cells on the 5x5 board are blocked and cannot have cards placed on them. These create strategic chokepoints and wall-like edges.
Winning
After all playable spaces are filled:
- Count all cards of your color on the board
- The player with more cards wins
- Gold and EXP are awarded based on results
Sudden Death
If the game ends in a draw and the Sudden Death rule is enabled:
- Cards on the board are redistributed to their original owners
- A new round begins with redistributed hands (max 3 rounds)
- Discard is disabled during Sudden Death rounds
- Block positions and elemental tiles are preserved
- If still tied after 3 rounds, the game ends as a draw
Play Modes
AI Match
Practice against computer opponents with adjustable difficulty:
- Normal - Greedy AI, picks the move with most captures each turn
- Hard - 2-ply lookahead, considers your response
- Very Hard - Minimax with alpha-beta pruning for near-optimal play
Multiplayer Match
- Create or join lobbies from the game list
- Configure rules before starting
- Gold rewards for winning (no card trading in OTT)
- Wager support for competitive matches
- ELO rating updates (tracked separately as OTT Rank)
Key Differences from TTE
| Feature | TTE | OTT |
|---|---|---|
| Board Size | 3x3 (9 cells) | 5x5 (25 cells) |
| Cards per Player | 5 | 15 |
| Visible Cards | All 5 | 2 at a time (sliding window) |
| Discard | No | Yes (once per game) |
| Block Positions | No | Yes |
| Card Trading | Yes (post-match) | No (gold rewards only) |
| Game Length | ~5 turns | ~12-13 turns |
Tips
- Use your discard wisely - You only get one per game, save it for when it matters most
- Plan around blocks - Block positions create natural defensive walls
- Think ahead - With 15 cards, the game is longer and more strategic
- Watch the window - Pay attention to what cards are coming next
- Control the center - The 5x5 board has more strategic positions than 3x3
- Set up combos - Larger board means more opportunities for Same/Plus/Combo chains
